Lightswitch Architectural have designed the lighting for Hillshire Brands new workspace in Chicago.

After moving to the suburbs in 2009, the former subsidiary of Sara Lee Corp returned to the city where it was headquartered for more than 60 years. Architect and interior designer Perkins + Will designed the $75 million renovation of an existing 300,000 sq ft industrial building in the up-and-coming West Loop neighbourhood.

Lightswitch Architectural designed the lighting for all public and private spaces. The designers selected low-energy, low-maintenance solutions, like fluorescent and LED sources, and designed a substantial DALI-protocol control system that includes occupancy sensors, keypads and touch-screens in conference rooms, personal control capabilities, and daylighting controls. All told, their design came in more than 40% below energy code.

By working in Revit, Lightswitch were able to seamlessly coordinate their plans with the architect and engineer, significantly reducing time-consuming and costly errors. Using their technological know-how of lighting, controls and BIM, the designers guided the project team to a successful completion that was on time and in budget.
