What It Was
Sam Zell, named #52 on the Forbes 400 richest Americans list, decided to throw himself a 60th birthday party. This of course was no ordinary party. Mr. Zell who is a self-made real estate mogul wanted to create the ultimate party that would dazzle and astonish his colleagues and friends.
What We Did
The event site was an abandoned factory on Chicago’s North Side. Lightswitch was brought in to transform the raw space into a magnificent party. We chose to use large format projection and multi media to create massive images. Lightswitch took advantage of the factory’s ninety-foot walls and hung fabric over them to use as projection surfaces covering the entire space. From floor to ceiling, colorful, bold, moving images were projected, using the style of the artists Magritte and Rousseau. Lightswitch researched these artists and chose images that transported six hundred guests into a surrealistic paradise as they watched Bette Midler perform.
Why It Worked
This event centered on the images projected on every wall surface. These images were key to creating the theme of the event and Lightswitch’s creativity and media expertise made it possible for the party goers to feel as though they were part of the artists’ paintings. Lightswitch brought imagination and ingenuity to this very successful and fun event.
