RMHC Awards of Excellence

Ronald McDonald House | Rosemont, IL, 2009

What It Was

Ronald McDonald House Charities, a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) corporation, creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. Its programs are grassroots-driven to enable the Charity to offer help where children need it most - right in their own communities. RMHC® makes an immediate, positive impact on children's lives through its global network of local Chapters in 52 countries and its three core programs: the Ronald McDonald House®, Ronald McDonald Family Room® and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®.

Every year, RMHC hosts its Awards of Excellence, to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to improve the lives of children. Past RMHC Awards of Excellence Recipients have included: NCAA championship basketball coach and youth mentor John Wooden; the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps with actor Paul Newman accepting on their behalf; actor, director and humanitarian Danny Glover; Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan; the late Joan Kroc, wife of McDonald's Corporation founder Ray A. Kroc; former First Lady Betty Ford; and the late Jim Henson among others.

In addition to honoring outstanding individuals, the Awards of Excellence celebration includes a dinner, an elite auction and world class entertainment from performers including Garth Brooks, David Foster and Friends, Richard Marx, Kenny Rogers, and the late Bernie Mac.

What We Did

Lightswitch is proud to have lit this show annually since 1995, crafting lighting and media designs that suited both the event décor theme as well as the needs of a diverse range of entertainment. Lightswitch also worked hand in hand with RMHC and long time lighting vendor TLC to secure the involvement of equipment manufacturers that wished to donate equipment or services to this important event.

Why It Worked

Charity fundraiser events require a delicate balance of cutting edge technology and fiscal restraint. Every year we bring the latest advances in lighting and media technology to the project, whilst always tempering this with the desire to maximize the fund raising goal of the event.

Lightswitch is proud to be a corporate donor and supporter of RMHC.
