Art Institute of Chicago Modern Wing Opening

Art Institute of Chicago | Chicago, IL, 2009

What It Was

When the Art Institute opens of Chicago opened a new wing, Jam Productions, producers for the Gala Opening of the Art Institute Modern Wing, turned to Lightswitch. The event featured a sound and light spectacle with music from Taiko Project and aerialists from the world renowned Project Bandaloop performing on the North face of the building, as well as lighting of the Nichols Bridgeway linking the museum to Millennium Park.

What We Did

Due to an accelerated installation and programming time line, we decided to bring in the big guns. A combination of X & Y ‘Big Lites’ and High End Showgun fixtures with high efficiency LED fixtures nestled around the Taiko drummers gave us maximum impact per fixture.

Why It Worked

We took our inspiration from the crisp, clean aesthetic of Renzo Piano’s architecture. This resulted in an elegant yet simple display that was as memorable as it was appropriate.
